HELP WANTED

My goal for this site is to become the foundation for an actual liberal publication in the State of Ohio. But, for that to happen I need some help. I need people who have a passionate interests in the issues facing us as Ohioans and Americans, not necessarily in that order. I want people who believe in progressive ideals of health care for all Americans, be it universal single payer or some other form. People who believe that corporate profit should be moderated by environmental concern and that the profit motive will never force business to protect the planet before Mother Earth kicks us out and starts over again. People who believe that all the cultures of this great melting pot that is America have value and a contribution to make and that the giant steel lady who has greeted thousands of immigrants stands for more than another nationalistic icon to be trotted out on the Fourth of July and at party conventions. People who believe that our Constitution held a greater promise of freedom than the framers realized, a promise that we are still struggling to fulfill in it's entirety today. People who believe that our system of laws means more than a settlement check or a bludgeon to keep us in line, but rather a means to ensure our freedom from the yoke of tyranny. People who believe that the people's of other countries around the world have a desire to share in the prosperity we enjoy not simply labor in horrible conditions so that we can have things. People who believe that our countrymen have been blindfolded and led astray by a system that promotes ignorance of the real issues while exploiting that ignorance. In short, people who believe there is yet hope for America to realize her full potential. Join the fight to take America back and give it to it's rightful owners, us.

MIssion Statement
The Alarm is a new kind of news and information outlet in Central Ohio, combining an interactive weblog with a monthly hardcopy article review of the best of the blog's articles, editorials and cartoons.
The Alarm will be different because it will be written by you. We encourage everyone who reads The Alarm to feel free to write and express your opinion and if you feel so inclined, to become a contributor to the discussion of the current issues that effect each and everyone of us.
In addition to reporting on the day's events, The Alarm, unlike other news outlets, wants to be an involved partner in the political process, helping to educate the citizenry, advocating for progressive legislation and reform, and helping to train future leaders. To those ends the staff of The Alarm will:
1. Provide periodic seminars, group discussions and townhall meetings on issues of responsible citizenship on topics as wide ranging as environmental regulation, energy independence, funding of public school systems, etc.
2. Advocate on behalf of progressive legislation and the leaders who have the courage to sponsor such bills in our legislature, (i.e. an increase in the minimum wage and public financing of political campaigns).
3. Work with teachers to help educate our young people on the importance of civic participation and what it means to the maintenance of a free society. We will also conduct seminars on such topics as public speaking and how our government works.
Finally, The Alarm seeks to foster a spirit of community and charity by doing good works in the community. We hope to be able to substantially contribute to local charitable organizations through donations of both money and manpower and the establishment of community events suchs as local clean-ups, recycling drives and food drives.
I hope you enjoy reading The Alarm and are moved to join us in our efforts to make Central Ohio a better place.
